My life is a circus with Kiarnna Weber.
If you told people your life was a circus, they would probably laugh and think that you were just being a bit dramatic. But for Kiarnna Weber, her life is LITERALLY a circus!
A member of the Weber Bros Circus family and star of the Bravo reality TV series, The Circus, Kiarnna lives and breathes the circus life.
Kiarnna recently gave Billie a glimpse into what her life is really like as a part of the circus!
When did you first start performing in the circus?
Oh jeez, maybe when I was 8 I had my first official solo act.
What was it like growing up in the circus? Has it always been the norm for you?
Growing up in the circus was normal, and whenever I go and live in our house, it’s not normal. Your normal, is the opposite to my normal! I go on holiday to my house, you go on holiday to a caravan!!
Were you a born performer or was it something you had to learn to do?
I had to learn it, but being on stage has always been something I have loved. I always challenge myself by learning something new and trying to be better at what I do.
What are you most looking forward to about people watching The Circus Season 2?
I get to perform on stage with my boyfriend AND he snuck around behind my back and arranged an incredible day up on Mt Cook where he proposed to me! And living in Queenstown for a month was just incredible!
Congrats on your engagement! Is your now-fiance super involved in the circus too?
Thanks!!! Ivan had been in Circus his whole life and has been working for my family for ten years, so he is big part of the show.
What’s it like to have a TV crew following you around?
At first it was very weird and nerve-wracking because you don’t know how to act. And then later on, you don’t even notice the cameras are there anymore and you start to be more yourself which you’ll see in season 2.
If you weren’t in the circus, what do you think you would be doing?
Gosh, I feel like it would be something sporty. I’m an active person, so I’d hate to be stuck in an office job.
What’s your favourite thing to perform?
That’s a hard one! Out of everything that I do, flying trapeze has always been my dream and it’s something I really really enjoy doing. But there’s a lot of hard work that goes into it, so I think the challenge of that makes it more rewarding.
Have you ever been seriously injured?
Touch wood, I’ve not been badly injured. Hang on, no I fractured my foot BUT I still performed the next day. It was so embarrassing as I could barely walk!
What’s the best and worst part of spending so much time with your family?
The best part would definitely have to be how close we are working together all the time.
The worst part, would have to be working together all the time!!!!
Do you ever just want to escape the circus?
Every day is different, so I never get bored of being in the circus. Ivan and I were 2 days into our first holiday together at the start of 2020, got 2 days in and then it was lockdown, so we had to come home!
Do you think you’ll ever leave the circus and if so, what do you think you’ll do?
I don’t think I’ll ever leave the circus as after your on-stage career ends, there’s a lot to do running the family business. BUT if I did leave, it would be to marry Zac Efron (sorry Ivan)!
What’s the most unexpected part of being in the circus that people don’t realise?
Probably that anything can happen, and every show something different happens, but the audience never notices. One thing people didn’t realise until the TV show was that we are all performers on stage, but we also have other jobs like selling donuts and putting up the big top tent!
What’s the most satisfying part of what you do?
Probably when I’ve done the last trick of my act and hear everyone scream. That’s my favourite part. You have to see and hear it to know what I mean.
Is it difficult travelling so often?
No, it’s one of the best parts about my job. After being in a town for 2 weeks I’m ready to move to the next place. I love to travel!
What do you do to unwind from everything?
I go home, lay in bed and watch TV!
What’s the most dangerous thing you’ve done?
I don’t know, it could be the flying trapeze, sky diving, or bungee jumping…or being in the passenger seat when my sister is driving! I really love the adrenaline of it all!
What’s your training regime like?
We train every day for 2 hours, and then we do 2 performances in front of an audience, so we are always on the go.
If someone was interested in getting involved in the circus, how would you recommend they get involved?
You can start with a circus school in your town, keep practicing, practice, practice, practice and don’t be afraid to put your hand up and try.
Brand new episodes of The Circus premiere weekly on Saturdays at 7:30pm (NZDT) on Bravo (channel 4 and Sky channel 12).
