Billie Reviews: ghd Duet Blowdry.

Another day, another hair tool release. At least that is what it feels like in my inbox.

But when it is from ghd, my interest is always piqued. It feels like they are constantly in R&D mode, ready to create new and easy ways for us normies to style our hair with little to zero skill.

The Duet Blowdry Hair Dryer Brush is one of the newer products from the global hair brand.

The idea of a heated brush isn’t new but incorporating the hair dryer element is the real game changer here.

No doubt spurred on my the dominance of the Dyson Airwrap and all its many attachments - the ghd Duet Blowdry aims to cut down on the time spent drying and styling your hair and save you money too.

Currently the Dyson Airwrap sets you back $899 in New Zealand - I mean 😳 The ghd Duet Blowdry is $655 which is still by no means a small amount but it’s currently on sale for $458.50 and it comes with a free paddle brush and volume cream so…

The mere words ‘cut down time’ had me dying to try it. So ghd kindly gifted me a tool so I could let you know if I truly thought it was worth it or not. I was also low-key inspired by how healthy and voluminous Sabrina Carpenter’s hair looks and I thought this would be the right tool to recreate my own Short N’ Sweet vibes.

I have been using the ghd Duet Blowdry since the start of January, 2025 and here are my thoughts:

I can’t remember the last time I was excited to wash my hair. It is long and thick, takes forever to wash and even longer to dry. Add on an extra 15-30 minutes if I’m going to curl it too. Most of the time, I don’t even bother drying it because it turns into an upper arm workout.

But ever since January, I have been looking forward to washing my hair because it means I can use the Duet to dry it and subsequently end up with a salon quality blow dry.

I know - that sounds like it came right out of a press release but it is the honest truth.

After using it for three months, I feel I have nailed the technique and cut down the time it takes from 30 minutes to a mere ten. I truly CAN do a lot in 15 minutes 💁🏻‍♀️

I even timed it to show that it’s actually possible to get it done in that time and it look fantastic.

In saying that, when I first started using the tool it was a real learning curve. It took me 3 or 4 seperate times to figure out how to use the tool to create the look I was wanting. This, as stated above, took time and although I enjoy using it, time was what I was looking to cut down on.

I must say that with all the ghd products I have tested over the years, they all take a few trys to get used to but once you have it down, you’re set.

One thing I will say is that you shouldn’t sleep on the ghd Volume Forever Blowdry Cream.

I usually forgo most hair product except for a heat protecting spray but having used the tool with and without the Volume Cream I can confidently say it is WORTH IT.

Although you can still achieve a nice silky blowout without the cream, it doesn’t take long before it starts to sit a little flat. With it, I found my hair stayed bouncier and fuller throughout the day.

I also love that the case folds down to create a heat protection mat because it gets HOT and it would be impossible to manoeuvre without putting down.

It’s worth mentioning that it doesn’t come with a how-to guide so I would highly recommend looking up some tutorials on YouTube on how to handle the tool for the look you want.

I have been following this one below but I plan on checking out a few others to see if I can get a bit of a bigger curl in there. (See the bottom of the review for how I use the tool.)

Like any tool that’s worth purchasing, it’s not cheap. As I mentioned above, the price tag is enough to elicit a straight up “nope, not today Satan” especially if you are at school or uni. However hear me out…

From wet to styled, I was able to get a close to perfect blow dry.

How much would you pay a salon to do that? Also how much do you value your time? If you love to do an hour-long blow dry and style every morning then you do you boo but as someone who likes to get the maximum possible hours of sleep saving time is key.

Making a huge financial in something can be difficult so considering how often you’ll use something can be helpful.

Let’s quickly do some girl math. The warranty on the ghd Duet Blowdry is two years (although ideally if you look after it, you should have it for longer). Hypothetically if you washed your hair every second day and used the Duet Blowdry after every wash, over two years your cost per use would be $1.79 (or $1.25 if you get it during their current sale). Although you can’t technically put a number on time, you also have to factor in that you are also saving possibly 10-30 minutes every time you use the tool. Now I would happily pay just less than $2 to have my hair look great everyday however that’s just me.

I thought by now the novelty of the shiny new toy would wear off and I’d be back to the hair-wash scaries. However, I still feel relatively happy to wash my hair because I know I can have it bone dry in less than ten minutes and properly styled in a couple more.

I think the best part of all is that when I look in the mirror my hair looks happy and healthy and it is serving a little bit of Sabrina. That’s all I could have hoped for.

My final thoughts: if you just want full, healthy looking hair - ditch the hair dryer and just get this instead. I own a good hair dryer and had taught myself to do a blowout with that but it took forever and never ever looked as good as what it does after I use the Duet Blowdry. Even with the high price tag, I’d be more than happy to invest in this tool given how much time it has saved me.

How I’ve been using it (in case you care 🤣):

  • Towel dry your hair so it gets to the point it’s not ‘drippy’ anymore

  • Pop in some Volume Forever Cream and brush it through with a hair brush or comb

  • Brush the Duet through your hair roughly 60-80% dry all over

  • Section your hair into a bottom layer and top layer

  • Slowly work your way through your hair in sections roughly the width of the brush and slowly brush through with the brush under the hair, pulling upwards to create lift at the root three times

  • For the final brush through, brush all the way to the bottom and slowly wrap the hair around the brush and hold for three seconds

  • Uncoil the section and repeat all over

  • Once all the sections have been brushed, I run the Duet over the back of my head to make sure it is fully dry as it can be easily missed

  • Then I take a small section of the ‘fringe area’ (I don’t have a fringe but it’s the area where it would be if I did 😂) and place the brush behind and wrap downwards and hold for three seconds again to create a nice lift for the framing pieces of hair

  • Voila, you look like a million bucks 💋
