Five tips to starting school stress free.

From wellness expert Rachel Grunwell.

The return to school is stressful – for everyone.

It’s common to feel anxious and nervous. So, don’t feel like you are alone in this “over-thinking zone”. Check in on your friends too and ask them if they are okay. Support each other in an authentic, positive, and caring way.

Here are Rachel’s 5 tips to help you start school stress-free:

Turn off.

If you’ve been on social media lots in the holidays and want to get back into more of a study routine then check out the app, Flora. You set a timer and it grows virtual plants. The plants only grow if you don’t go on your phone (or get distracted on social media during that time), so it acts as a fun incentive to stay focused!

Find your friends.

It’s easy to feel stressed about who you might be able to hang out with at lunchtime. So, to help avoid this stress, reconnect with some good friends at the end of the holidays before your school return. Also, let at least one friend know if you feel vulnerable about this so you can come up with a meet up plan for lunchtimes and get that extra support if you need it.

Get organised.

Get everything you need well before school starts; get your stationary, get a haircut if you need one, remove nail polish, and buy any school uniform pieces if you’ve outgrown them. Load up your bus card if it’s required (and check the timetable hasn’t changed since you last saw it!).

There’s nothing worse than trying to do things last minute. The stress levels can sky-rocket!

The night before.

Put all your school gear out on your bed the night before school so it is ready to go and everything is easy to find.

Be prepared.

Keep a stash of snacks to avoid getting “hangry” (hungry/angry). Keep coins and period products at the bottom of your school bag so you have these things if you ever need them.

Here’s to a positive and productive 2022!
