Top tanning tips for the ultimate glow up.
If a trip to the tropics isn’t on the agenda this winter, summer skin can be achieved with the right routine thanks to everyone’s favourite self tanning brand Bondi Sands, who shared their best tips and tricks for acing a faux glow (you’re welcome):
Step 1: Body care
A natural looking tan is all the prep and of course the maintenance. Exfoliating before application is essential for avoiding cling patches as it helps create an aced base. Focus on the knees, elbows and ankles with Bondi Sands Coconut & Sea Salt Body Scrub then all over, top to toe, using the Exfoliating Mitt.
Step 2: Read the label
Self tan continues to develop on the skin once it’s washed off, so stick to the recommended development period. If you’re wanting a golden dark tan, rather than applying multiple layers of product, try something that is designed to give you different levels of colour depending on marination time like Bondi Sands 1 Hour Express Self Tanning Foam and Face Mist. From the perfect light bronze to a darker hue this duo is made to develop anywhere between 30 - 3 hours (perfect for when you miss #tanThursday).
Step 3: Application
For a natural looking tan, you’ll want to use long, sweeping motions to avoid streaks. Apply using a mitt or back applicator and buff the excess tan on the applicator to those tougher skinned/drier areas like knees, elbows, ankles and hands to create a seamless application. Fun fact – these areas can hold self-tan easier thanks to their lack of moisture.
Step 4: Development
Many tanning formulas are now quick-drying or transfer free, like the Bondi Sands Liquid Gold and Pure range. However before hitting the sheets make sure to wash off the guide colour - depending on if you have developed long enough - or carry on knowing you are protected with a tan sheet protector or just some good old long PJ’s.
Step 5: Moisturise and protect
Keep up the good work with an effective moisturiser. Bondi Sands Coconut Body Moisturiser has a self tan friendly formula and the jojoba and vitamin E will keep your tan looking fresher for longer. Pair with an SPF (sorry to break it to you but you can still burn when bronzed) and you are good to rock your new found confidence.
Bondi Sands is available at Farmers, Unichem and Life Pharmacies.
