The best ‘no make-up’ make-up.
Wearing make-up can be super fun but for some reason it’s not always considered acceptable for a young girl to be in a full face of make up.
While special events like the school ball are all good, you’re generally not allowed to wear anything at school.
You’ll get the classic “who are you trying to impress” but honestly sometimes it’s just about covering up a few pimples so you can feel a little less self-conscious and that’s okay!
While your face is absolutely gorgeous as it is, there should be no shame in wanting a little bit extra now and then to hide a couple of spots and feel more confident.
We have found our favourite beauty products to help you create the best ‘no make-up’ make-up look
SPF.
You better believe I’m starting with the most important thing. SPF is hella important for maintaining gorgeous youthful skin throughout your life and if you aren’t already using it, you should start immediately.
I cannot stress this enough but everyday you leave the house, you should be wearing an SPF product on your face – even in winter. Plus it is going to pay off in the long run!
Recently I have been trialing Bondi Sands Hydra 50+ Face Lotion and I highly recommend it.
It’s super lightweight, non-greasy and a little goes a long way. Even better, it’s a super reasonable $24.99.
Tinted Moisturiser.
Alongside SPF, the best base for a natural make-up look is a tinted moisturiser. It’s far less intense than a foundation but still helps you achieve an even skin tone.
Because tinted moisturiser is much lighter than a foundation, it’s harder to tell you have anything on your face at all!
Hot tip: Go for a 2 in 1 and get a tinted moisturiser with SPF in it! I recommend an SPF of at least 30 although 50 is ideal.
My recommendation: I have been using La Roche-Posay Anthelios ULTRA Tinted Sunscreen SPF50+ For Dry Skin. It has a pleasant small and is reasonably light on the face. Don’t be put off by the darkness of it, it blends in nicely.
Concealer.
Concealer was my absolute go-to in high school as it helped me cover all my flaming red angry pimples from the world.
If you are looking for a small quick fix to help cover any pimples or pigmentation, a good concealer is the way to go.
I would recommend going into somewhere like Mecca or Sephora and getting them to find the perfect concealer for your skin tone.
My recommendation: Nars Creamy Concealer may be expensive ($49) but it’s considered the best of the best. Just swipe a bit onto the problem areas and blend it in.
Mascara.
Mascara can make such a huge difference in your appearance and often immediately brightens your beautiful face. However it can be hard to find the right mascara that walks the fine line of making your lashes look better but not immediately obvious you’re wearing mascara.
My recommendation: I have a few recommendations for mascara.
Best mascara: My favourite natural looking mascara for a long time has been Benefit They’re Real! Tinted Eyelash Primer in Brown. If you naturally have darker eyelashes, this mascara gives them a little lift without going too far away from your natural colour. I’ve also found it separates lashes nicely without clumping. If you have fairer lashes or you aren’t into a coloured mascara there are plenty of clear options that will give you the flicked look like the wet n wild Mega Clear Mascara.
Alternatively, If you are willing to spend the $$$ a Yumi Lash Lift is the perfect way to go. The treatment, which takes roughly an hour, can set you back over $100 however your lashes look long, luscious and all-natural for about six weeks.
Brows.
Like mascara, it’s quite easy to make your brows look naturally great. Personally, I get my brows waxed every couple of months and maintain the strays with tweezers in between. I then simply brush my brows upwards with a spoolie brush every morning to make them look full and tidy.
If you do need a bit more, a clear brow gel or a very light pencil/pomade in between. Have a look at a tutorial on the best way to pencil in your brows naturally if you’re unsure.
My recommendation: I have recently been using Ardell Brow Pomade in Medium Brown. It’s nice and natural and if you aren’t feeling the pomade, you can just use the spoolie brush for a bit of a tidy.
Lips.
Keep it simple and just go for a nice natural lip balm. Usually clear lip balm is super acceptable in school. You can also get lip balms like Hurraw that have a very light tint that enhances your natural lip colour.
My recommendation: My faves are Blistex Lip Conditioning Balm Stick SPF30 (cause SPF and smells like caramel & vanilla) and Hurraw! Tinted Lip Balm in Black Cherry.
