Billie Reviews: Milou Beauty.
Life can be chaotic, whether you’re working the nine to five, on the uni grind, or powering through some pilates, skincare is often the last thing on the mind - I know I put my skincare routine on the backburner more than I should.
A couple of simple go to products is all I want and need, so I jumped at the opportunity to trail the Milou Tri-Dration skincare set. Promising simple but effective science-backed skincare products, the Aotearoa-based beauty brand has been put to the test over the past two months by yours truly.
What really stood out to me was how set Milou is in their brand identity. Milou is a female-founded company that has clearly thought out how they can do their part to be ethically and environmentally responsible. Milou prioritises botanical wealth, and by using plant-based ingredients found in Aotearoa, the company are clearly committed to all things natural.
“Good for you and good for the planet” is what Milou assures when purchasing any of their three products. The company’s use of glass, recycled cardboard boxes, and compostable mailer bags makes for sustainable packaging. Milou does use plastic for the pumps of their products, however, in cooperation with CleanHub, the company remove the same amount of plastic from the environment. The up-and-coming skin-care company is clearly committed to future thinking which makes me want to like their trio skin care set more.
I am fortunate enough to only deal with fine acne and hormonal breakouts. I have tried a few different products, but I am always on the search for better options which is why I was stoked to trail Milou and its natural plant-based products.
The Milou Tri-Dration skincare set includes:
Bright and Tight Vitamin C Serum
Plump Me Up Hyaluronic Acid Serum
Give Me the Gloss Beauty Oil - my personal favorite!
The 100% vegan and cruelty-free Tri-Dration skincare set arrived at my front door on a random Wednesday. The flat went racing to do an unboxing. Packaged in bright pink, peach and light pink boxes, the product appeal was growing by the second. With braille on the side of the boxes for those without sight, I felt reassured that Milou cares because they cater for all their customers. The simple design of the colour coordinated glass jars made for easy-to-use products.
My personal favorite would have to be the Give Me the Gloss Beauty Oil! I personally use the oil before I go to sleep, and it leaves my skin feeling hydrated and smoother than ever. The product glides onto the skin effortlessly, and I wake up to a soft, glossy, and glowing face. I find the oil also helps with my inflammation on those weeks when my skin is just not playing ball. The oil includes omegas 3, 6 and 9, along with vitamins A and C. It is extremely versatile and can be used on the face, hands, and even hair! But one of my favorite things about the oil is that a little goes a long way. I’m only about one quarter of the way through the bottle after two months which goes for all three of the Milou products.
The Hyaluronic Acid Serum is more of a thick serum which I have used up the most over the past two months. I use the serum twice a day and it works well to hydrate and reduce irritation. The formula includes New Zealand sourced mamaku fern and red seaweed extract to sooth the skin. I have noticed a serious difference in the hydration levels of my skin two months after using the product consistently! The natural New Zealand sourced ingredients provide reassurance that I am using a product that ACTUALLY looks after my skin.
The same goes for the Bright and Tight Vitamin C Serum which I use on the days where I don’t wear makeup. The aloe vera based Vitamin C Serum leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean. The illuminating serum brightens and protects the skin to help maintain a youthful glow. I can also confirm, the serum smells and feels amazing! I would argue that the Vitamin C Serum made the biggest difference for the dark patches under my eyes. Not only do I feel more awake, but I look more awake!
But you pay for what you get, with the Tri-Dration skincare set costing $205. All three products are also sold separately, with the Milou Bright and Tight Vitamin C Serum priced at $75, the Plump Me Up Hyaluronic Acid Serum costing $69, and Give Me the Gloss Beauty Oil going for $73. If you’re tossing up whether to commit to the purchase, I would label it as an investment into your future self. Free shipping across New Zealand, female founded, and even incorporating braille onto the packaging, if you’re considering making the purchase, just girl math it and do it! Milou even donate $1 dollar to Women’s Refugee for every Beauty Oil that is purchased.
What I have learned over the past two months trialing Milou is that they are a trusted skincare brand who are working revolutionise the beauty industry. I feel like I start and end my days right, using products that support my skin, and protects the country I call home!
Big props to Bailee Wilson-Pledger and Libby Boxall who have clearly worked tireless hours to formulate Milou and its products.
Thank you Milou, you can have my next paycheck ;)
