Hey sis, heartbroken?

So that special he/she/they that you’ve had your eye on for months has just gone Facebook official with someone else. UGH. 

So the person that you had your first lil kissy kiss with at the school dance has broken up with you BY FACEBOOK MESSAGE?! Yuck! 

This next part we say with the best intentions and with our arms metaphorically around you in a big tight squeeze-- sorry, the big heartbreak is still to come. But as your sis, I can promise you that I look back on the time where I felt like my heart had been ripped out of my chest, stomped on the ground, set on fire, found on the clearance rack at Mirrou, set on fire again and kicked in the ass with an absolute fondness. 

There’s this strange thing that happens when you get your heart broken, you come back even stronger. And that time that you’ve previously spent writing their name next to yours in the back of your school book (and then scribble out immediately because hooooooooooow mortifying would it be for someone to see it), or trying to schedule in the next movie and pizza hang is instead spent focusing on you and what makes you happy. 

Before we ask some tough questions, we have one huge piece of advice. Just cry. That’s right, just let it OUT my love. Cry into your pillow until you think you feel like that episode of Spongebob where ol mate is desperately in need of water. Why? Because it’s what your body and brain needs to help process how you’re feeling. Plus there’s a lot of hormones and feelings that come with being your age, I knoooooow.

It’s totally okay to be upset, and by listening and acknowledging that emotion it’ll make it easy to move on from it and start feeling ready for that hot girl summer.

Crushes are confusing, messy and scary, so it’s probably worth asking yourself, did you reaaaaaally like them? Or did you like the idea of them? 

Sometimes when we get a crush on someone, what can happen is that we create a perfect version of them in our heads rather than the person that they actually are. But the reality might be that they DON’T want to watch Anime with you after school like you’d be dreaming of, because they’re their own person too! 

“Dating” should be easy, and if someone likes you you’ll probably know! Ask yourself if they seem to be prioritising you the way that you’re prioritising them, and if not maybe it’s for the best that things hadn’t worked out the way you wanted them to-- because you’re a QUEEN/KING/NON-GENDERED ROYALTY and you deserve nothing but the best. 

So here we are once again coming in with the self-care ideas that don’t suck (hAvE yOu tRiEd gOiNg oN A waLk?!) to get you feeling that little bit better: 

  • DIY Spa Routine:
    The Kiwi natural skincare queens at Tailor have shared some DIY Self-Care treatments that you’ll be able to make from the comfort of your kitchen, including DIY bath-bombs or glowy bath soaks that you could even package up really cutely with sustainable packaging and give them to your favourite people for building you up when you really need it.

  • Friends-Only Movie Night:
    No boyfriends, girlfriends or partners allowed-- strictly. Now’s the time to surround yourself with your favourite people, cry with them, laugh with them, cry-laugh with them…

  • Buy Yourself some Flowers:
    Treat. Yoself. There’s nothing like a gift from you to you, and there’s no greater joy in the world than a fresh bunch of flowers. You should NEVER wait around for a boy, girl or otherwise to buy them for you.

  • Cry:
    Did we mention cry? Yeah man, GET those feelings out. Pop on our Billie Hates Breakups Playlist and cry until snot is bubbling from your nose. Even better, jump in the shower and have a nice cry, and level up that crying-shower with a shower bomb like these ones from Lush! So at least while you’re living your own movie moment you’ll be surrounded by luxe smells as a present from you to you to know that you only deserve the best.
